Recycle your oil

Oil & Tire Recycling Services

Change you own motor oil? The standard that cars need oil changes every 3,000 miles no longer applies to most cars. Chances are good you don’t need an oil change as often as you think, saving you time and money in service costs.  Find the recommended oil change interval for your car at CheckYourNumber.Org. Did you know tires can be recycled into new roads, soaker hoses, and athletic tracks? There are many convenient locations that will accept your oil, filters, and tires for year-round. Find a convenient collection center near you at WasteFreeSD.org or by calling the Recycling hotline at 1-877-R-1-EARTH (1-877-713-2784).

Events
The County also hosts free Community Cleanup Events, including tire recycling and used oil filter exchange events, throughout the year. Want to know when an event is coming to your area? See our Recycling Events webpage or call 1-877-R-1-EARTH to sign up for notifications.

Oil Recycling Services for Businesses
Grants are available to support the collection and recycling of used motor oil and filters. If your business is located in the unincorporated area and is interested in offering free collection to the public, you may be eligible for free equipment and reimbursement of related costs. Contact a Recycling Specialist at Recycle@sdcounty.ca.gov or (858) 694-2456 for more information.
