On March 1, 2016, the County of San Diego’s Board of Supervisors adopted the Getting to Zero initiative, which seeks to end the HIV epidemic. This initiative was adopted in recognition that, due to advances in HIV treatment as well as development of highly effective HIV prevention interventions, HIV has become a winnable battle.
As of December 2022, nearly 15,000 people in San Diego County were living with HIV/AIDS, with 489 new cases. An estimated 10% were living with HIV, but unaware of their HIV status. Among those newly diagnosed with HIV, 87% were linked to care within 30 days.
- Ensuring the wide availability of testing in community-based and health care settings.
- Providing access to treatment and supportive services that promote retention in care for all persons living with HIV.
- Preventing new infections through a combination of evidence-based interventions.
- Engaging communities in developing strategies to improve health outcomes related to HIV.
The County of San Diego Getting to Zero Mobile App is intended for San Diego County residents (persons living with or at-risk of contracting HIV), organizations, and individuals involved in HIV related work. App users can connect to resources, such as PrEP, testing, treatment, and support services, across San Diego County from any mobile device! Users can search by location, language, services offered, transportation routes, and much more. The app is available in multiple languages and the digital guidebook is available in English and Spanish.
