The Land Use and Environment Group (LUEG) is committed to enhancing community well-being, preserving the environment and improving residents' quality of life. Its initiatives span road safety, homeless encampment cleanups, water quality, and park and library improvements, addressing diverse community needs. These services are crafted through active stakeholder engagement and community needs assessments, ensuring that every member can thrive in a secure and resilient natural and built environment for generations to come. As a united team, LUEG is dedicated to addressing current needs and building a foundation for a brighter, more equitable and sustainable future.
During the fiscal year, LUEG departmental meetings focused on empathy, building resilience, addressing bias, navigating microaggressions, incorporating pronoun use and aligning with the County's Language Access Policy. Each of its seven departments has integrated these elements into their long-term goals, strategies, and implementation plans, forming the basis for a comprehensive LUEG strategic plan. This initiative aims to foster a culture and framework conducive to long-term innovation in community service and operations.
This strategic plan will support operational planning and financial forecasting, positioning LUEG to navigate future policy and community changes. It will facilitate the elevation and tracking of cross-departmental and enterprise-wide initiatives, fostering collaboration and ensuring seamless execution of its objectives. Moreover, it will serve as a guiding document for performance management.
Ongoing efforts to address equity, diversity, and inclusion across LUEG have been integral to this strategic planning process. Collaborative working groups have made significant progress in tackling action items related to bias, identifying service gaps and utilizing data to enhance service delivery. The culmination of these efforts, coupled with LUEG’s continued analysis of service provision, positions it to extend its reach, cover a broader range of impactful topics and engage with the community more frequently.
To understand and meet the evolving needs of community members and enhance accountability, each LUEG department regularly assesses its services, identifies gaps, and collaborates with stakeholders to develop effective approaches. This commitment to ongoing evaluation and improvement ensures that LUEG departments not only meet but exceed the expectations of those they serve, fostering a community-driven and responsive approach to their work.
