The Public Safety Group (PSG) is committed to supporting the community in public safety and well-being by providing equitable and sustainable services within the County of San Diego. Through ongoing efforts to address disparities in equity, diversity, and inclusion, PSG departments have undertaken various projects to foster transformation in these gaps, both within communities and the County organization.
PSG collaborates on initiatives such as the Fall Festival, focus groups and quarterly all-staff meetings, promoting deeper understanding and inclusivity. Prioritizing inclusive actions, PSG provides multilingual training and outreach to diverse populations, including youth, seniors, LGBTQIA+ individuals, and those with Limited English Proficiency.
Additionally, PSG supports parents reintegrating with their children, addresses socioeconomic disparities faced by justice-involved individuals, and tackles housing and financial instability affecting pet owners. Collaboration with educational and behavioral health services fosters cultural awareness and pride among youth and probation teams.
Efforts extend to improving D&I recruitment and retention, streamlining processes, expanding job fair participation and enhancing the new hire experience. Future plans include conducting a diversity climate assessment and implementing data-driven training initiatives.
PSG emphasizes D&I in meetings, fostering a collaborative and inclusive work environment. Departments enhance communication with multicultural and communities with Limited English Proficiency during emergencies, ensuring essential support reaches all. These initiatives demonstrate PSG's commitment to fostering equity, diversity and inclusion, thereby enhancing public safety and community well-being throughout the county.
