Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) at the County are fundamental partners in County efforts to cultivate community and build bridges for opportunity. ERGs are a conduit for employees to have a collective voice, influence policies and initiatives, and forge lasting relationships. These voluntary, employee-led organizations are sponsored by County executives and guided by four pillars:
The ERG Council, comprised of the 11 ERG presidents, is a collaborative body that serves to provide all County of San Diego Employee Resource Groups with the resources and support they need to help achieve their respective goals and the collective ERGs’ efforts. Their leadership has produced transformational opportunities, such as the introduction of listening sessions, community panel dialogues, and participation in the Champion Showcase.

CSDFEA is committed in creating inclusive spaces and improving the motivation and engagement of our diverse workforce, both in the workplace and community at large. Our dedication to EDI trickles from our leadership down to our members, as our Board represents different races, generational cohorts from Gen Z to Gen X, sexual identities, and learning disabilities. Mission: To advance awareness of the cultural diversity unique to LGBTQ communities, provide and promote professional development and leadership opportunities, and advocate for inclusiveness in and support of County initiatives.
The LGBTQ&A ERG has been at the forefront of issues surrounding Diversity and Inclusion for many years. The County continues to make significant strides towards ensuring a more equitable and inclusive workplace. This includes close coordination with our ERG on the adoption of a Pronoun Policy, which supports employees who wish to be addressed by their expressed pronoun and name. Our group is also regularly asked to review training materials from a gender Equality/Inclusivity lens. Lastly, we align with the LiveWell initiative by providing activities such as hikes, we collaborate with various departments to provide LGBTQ+ cultural education at meetings and on discussion panels, and we create opportunities for members to network with County employees across all departments at our FABULOUS mixers.

This past September, the Pacific Islander Festival Association (PIFA) continued to host the longest running event attracting the largest NHPI audience in the US. The annual event aims to promote community projects, provide educational and cultural resources, and enlighten all attendees on the diverse cultures of the indigenous people of Melanesia, Micronesia, and Polynesia. This year, members of the Pacific Islander Society of County Employees (PISCE) served various and essential roles in support of PIFA. From planning and coordinating logistics, tabling to share about our traditions and values, or simply attending the event with family and friends as viewers and supporters. PISCE is committed to the intentional engagement of the pacific islander community and will continue to support the success of PIFA. We look forward to seeing you there next year!

San Diego County Latino Association, an employee resource group committed to promote professional excellence, leadership, cultural awareness, while promoting county initiatives. As County employees, we live and breathe “The noblest motive is the public good,” and we stand together with the opportunity to change lives for the better. Our success cannot just be measured by the number of members that we have, but, more importantly, by the lives that we impact and improve both in our roles as County employees and in the service to our community.
Upcoming projects include more arts and recreation into our upcoming year. We have partnered with Sew Loka in Barrio Logan to bring a new event in embroidery showcasing Latin inspired art to our members. We have recently met with the San Diego Opera where they are beginning to include more Latino Inspired productions at the San Diego Civic Center. Art and music are ways we can break that barrier for Diversity and Inclusion and SDCLA is excited to embark in this.
