Our volunteers care for more than 25,000 thousands of cats, dogs, livestock and exotic animals every year. These are animals that have been abandoned, hurt, lost or neglected. They deserve the high level of care we give them. We can do that, in part, thanks to our dedicated volunteers.

Child Support Services

Legal Internships and Graduate Law Clerk (Post-Bar-Exam) Positions

Legal Internships are available throughout the year for currently enrolled law school students to gain valuable legal experience working with and under the supervision of experienced child support attorneys. Become a part of a dynamic team and help support the department’s mission of enhancing the lives and well-being of children and promoting family self-sufficiency by establishing and enforcing support orders. Legal internships are unpaid positions, but school credit may be available it offered by your law school.
Graduate Law Clerk paid positions are also available for law school graduates who are scheduled to take or have recently taken the California State Bar examination and are awaiting results.

San Diego County Fire

Volunteer Reserve Firefighter Program

The Volunteer Reserve Firefighter (VRFF) Program provides emergency medical services to the unincorporated areas of San Diego County. Reserves are an integral part of San Diego County Fire, as they are professionally trained and work with CAL FIRE staff to respond to an array of emergencies including structure and wildland fires, emergency medical incidents, natural disasters, hazardous materials incidents, rope-based rescues, water rescue emergencies and other general public service calls. In all, the County Fire VRFF Program serves a population of approximately 48,600 residents living in about 1.5 million acres of unincorporated San Diego County. Reserves will have the opportunity to serve shifts at many of the County Fire Stations within the San Diego County Fire Protection District.

San Diego County Fire

Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Member

The CERT program is composed of volunteers from across San Diego County Fire’s jurisdiction who are trained to assist their fellow citizens in basic disaster response. County Fire’s CERT volunteers are trained on how to promote and provide emergency awareness training, and to provide operational support to San Diego County Fire during large-scale emergency incidents. CERT volunteers have provided critical assistance during numerous wildfires and during the COVID-19 pandemic. Work has included conducting welfare checks, distributing supplies, working with the American Red Cross at shelter and temporary evacuation points, and disaster recovery operations.
