Environmental Justice Workgroup
The Environmental Justice Workgroup advises on sustainability and environmental justice issues, striving to improve people’s quality of life in the San Diego region.
Purpose
The Environmental Justice Workgroup works with the County and other jurisdictions to advise and provide feedback on regional initiatives, services, and programs related to the climate emergency. Led by the Office of Sustainability and Environmental Justice (OSEJ), the workgroup provides a platform for those directly experiencing environmental injustices to uplift community priorities into regionwide actions.
The Regional Decarbonization Framework guides the workgroup’s efforts. The workgroup will be a key part of making the County’s commitment to community engagement a reality by working alongside the communities most impacted by systemic environmental inequities.
Regional focus
The workgroup includes individuals and organizations representing diverse perspectives that guide work across the entire San Diego region. It includes a broad range of voices with residents, tribal members, community-based organizations, academics and researchers, and youth bringing diverse geographic and demographic perspectives.
This workgroup specifically focuses on environmental justice and sustainability efforts with communities, especially with people who have lived experiences and are often left out of sustainability conversations.
Meetings and Membership
The Workgroup meets every other month (January, March, May, July, September, and November) in 2025.
The membership application period is now closed. We will reopen in mid-2026.
