Tammy Glenn

Tammy Glenn serves as the Director of the County of San Diego Communications Office.

She is passionate about building strategies centered around effective storytelling to make a difference in people’s lives. She leads an award-winning team responsible for the organization’s public relations, internal communications, community engagement and language services strategies to support the County’s vision of a just, sustainable and resilient future for all.

The department manages web design and content, video production, social media, media relations, branding and marketing, as well as intranet and executive communications. This includes County News Center, an innovative site launched in 2011, using a County platform to tell the organization’s story in addition to traditional media relations. The Communications Office also supports meaningful and accessible community engagement opportunities, including the coordination of Engage San Diego County, an online platform where the public can learn about current projects and share feedback.

Tammy joined the County in 2007, starting as a public information specialist before becoming the Communications Office Assistant Director in 2012. She recently led the development and launch of the County’s first brand. Glenn is experienced in crisis communications and has served as the Joint Information Center manager in the County Emergency Operations Center during many regional emergencies including wildfires, a multi-state blackout and other high-profile incidents. In addition, Glenn won an Emmy for producing a terrorism awareness video prior to the 10th anniversary of the September 11 attacks.

Before joining the County, Tammy was a television news writer and producer and also worked in marketing and communications for a non-profit organization. She has BA in journalism from San Diego State University.
