County of San Diego Airports is working with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) on a proposal to reclassify the Gillespie Airport Reference Code for Runway 17/35, from a BII to a BI Small. The purpose of the proposed reclassification is to improve compliance with FAA standards for runway safety areas and runway/taxiway separation. A presentation and supporting documents regarding the safety improvements along with all comments received are linked below.
