CalFresh Healthy Living: Living
Overview
The County of San Diego HHSA's Aging & Independence Services (AIS) and Catholic Charities Diocese of San Diego (CCDSD) are the agencies responsible for implementing the Living domain of CalFresh Healthy Living. This work is improving access to healthy food and water and increasing opportunities for physical activity.
Key Activities
Neighborhood Settings: Community Organizations
- AIS educates older adults and community organizations on Policy, Systems, and Environmental (PSE) changes with the goal of creating and sustaining healthy living.
Public Housing Sites
- CCDSD implements strategies at senior residential sites which focus on creating and/or improving community physical activity opportunities and site wellness policies. Examples may include structured physical activity groups, including walking, Tai Chi, and dance.
Emergency Shelters
- CCDSD focuses on nutrition standards and site wellness policies at homeless shelters. Some of these activities involve planning, preparing, and serving healthy meals to program participants. Others focus on creating and maintaining procurement standards for healthy foods.
