Healthy Cities, Healthy Residents
Healthy Cities, Healthy Residents is a CalFresh Healthy Living project designed to address health disparities and help create healthy, thriving communities. Health disparities are strongly related to issues faced by low-income communities, such as poverty, underfunded schools, and lack of affordable housing. Healthy Cities, Healthy Residents staff and community partners work to plan and develop policies that support healthy food environments, safe community spaces, and active transportation methods like walking, biking, and public transit.
Check out some of the improvements that were made in the cities of
Vista, Oceanside, and Escondido as part of the Healthy Cities,
Healthy Residents initiative.
Healthy Cities, Healthy Residents collaborated with the City of Oceanside to improve the safety and walkability of the Crown Heights community by installing new sidewalks, pedestrian ramps, stop signs, and striping in the fall of 2022. Read the full story here.
Healthy Cities, Healthy Residents supported residents in Vista to develop an Active Transportation Plan for the Townsite community. Active Transportation Plans are a collection of policies, programs, funding mechanisms, and recommendations to help improve public health by increasing physical activity and active transportation—such as walking, biking, and public transportation.
