Self-Certification Program: Private Driveways

The County of San Diego allows for private driveways to be done under the self-certification process. The full list of requirements can be found in the Rules handout.

Eligible Projects Projects Not Eligible
  • Residential driveways serving no more than two lots
  • Driveways designed per Regional Standard Drawing (RSD) or design standards below:
    - RSD G-14 or DS-07
    - RSD G-15
    - RSD G-16
Submittal does not require a registered professional, but projects must have a registered CA contractor associated with the project
  • Residential driveways serving more than two lots
  • Commercial driveways
  • Projects that include work not related to driveway construction, i.e. retaining walls, utility work, signage, etc.
  • Design not per standards (may require Design Exception Request)
  • Projects that answer "Yes" to any of the environmental review questions in the application
