IHSS Providers

In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS) are provided by independent providers/caregivers. The IHSS recipient is considered the employer of his/her caregiver and is responsible for hiring, supervising and, if necessary, dismissing the provider.

The IHSS providers assist eligible individuals with homemaking and personal care such as:

  • Bathing and grooming
  • Dressing
  • Housecleaning
  • Shopping
  • Laundry
  • Meal preparation and cleanup

 

How to Apply

To become a provider, you must:
  • attend an enrollment session, 
  • show proof of employment, and
  • complete a Department of Justice (DOJ) background clearance.

Time Sheets - Electronic Visit Verification (EVV)

The State of California is required by Federal law to implement the Electronic Visit Verification (EVV) using electronic or telephonic methods to submit and approve timesheets. As of September 1, 2020, EVV is mandatory in the County of San Diego for all IHSS recipients and providers. To create an account and enroll in EVV in the Electronic Services Portal, visit www.etimesheets.ihss.ca.gov.
