April 22nd marks the 52nd anniversary of Earth Day – a day of action to promote environmental protection in daily life and public policy. Each year, more than one billion people from more than 190 countries around the globe celebrate Earth Day.
This year the County is expanding the fun across the entire month of April! The County’s Earth Day 2022 theme is “Committed to Caring for Our Earth”.
We’re excited showcase the many ways we can celebrate Earth Day with you in person and virtually!
Earth Day Fair at the County Operations Center
See how the County is committed to sustainability! We hope you’ll join us for our Earth Day Fair at the County Operations Center, 5500 Overland Drive, on April 22nd from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The County’s Land Use & Environment Group will showcase a variety of educational and interactive displays, and the Master Gardeners will answer questions about planting in our onsite community garden. You’ll find educational materials and displays on rain barrels, electric fleet vehicles, portable electric vehicle charging units, climate action issues, zero waste, and more!
2022 Virtual Earth Day Fair
You can also celebrate Earth Day with our 2022 Virtual Earth Day Fair. This site offers something for everyone including events you can join, how-to videos, hikes, science and technology activities, e-book collections, and proactive ways to live more sustainably. You can even visit museums and iconic locations around the world on this site.

EarthFair in Balboa Park
The San Diego region has been a huge supporter of Earth Day with the annual EarthFair in Balboa Park. As the largest free annual environmental fair in the world, EarthFair draws approximately 50,000 visitors looking for ways to live a more sustainable life and support a clean, healthy, prosperous environment. This year, EarthFair 2022 will feature more than 200 exhibitors, international food courts, entertainment for families, Earth Day Parade, and arts, crafts and educational information on sustainable practices. Among the exhibitors, multiple County departments will have booths to showcase and discuss their sustainability efforts.
