Climate Action Plan Update Community Outreach

10/10/22

To improve our equitable approach to the County’s Climate Action Plan Update, the Planning & Development Services Department’s Climate Action Plan (CAP) team within the Sustainability Planning Division has embarked on a community-centered outreach campaign.

The efforts were kicked off in August by hosting an interactive booth at the Lakeside and Julian Libraries.

Teaming up with representatives from San Diego Community Power, County staff asked residents about the CAP co-benefits that are most important to them to learn more about why this work is important to them and how the County can consider developing policies and programs that address their priorities and concerns. The libraries were offering free Chromebooks through their new Tech Connect program and free food through a partnership with Feeding San Diego, which increased foot traffic at the libraries.

The team’s community-centered outreach will continue over the next six months through a variety of platforms including:

  • a partnership with Aging and Independence Services, to reach older adults in the unincorporated area.

  • with schools in the unincorporated area, supported by a youth intern.

  • and potential opportunities to chat with farmworkers through a connection to the Farmworker CARE Coalition.

If you have any ideas of other ways we can engage with residents or interest groups in the unincorporated area, or if you are a resident of the unincorporated area and want to provide feedback on the Climate Action Plan Update, please let us know
