County Launches Electric Vehicle Consumer Guide Website

07/15/21

As part of the County of San Diego’s ongoing implementation of the Electric Vehicle Roadmap (EV Roadmap), adopted by the Board of Supervisors in October 2019, we are excited to share the launch of the Electric Vehicle (EV) Consumer Guide website. This website provides resources to help answer questions about owning zero-emissions vehicles (ZEVs).

ZEVs are vehicles that run on fuels other than gasoline and include a variety of low- to no-emission technologies including battery EVs, plug-in hybrid EVs, and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles. These vehicles offer a cost competitive option to gasoline-powered vehicles due to lower fuel and maintenance costs, lower greenhouse gas emissions, and improve air quality.

The County’s EV Consumer Guide website offers technical support, education, and outreach to increase ZEV use and charging station installation throughout the region. This consolidated source of vehicle electrification information provides information about the benefits of ZEV ownership, a fuel cost comparison calculator, tools to help search for and compare ZEV models to fit varying lifestyles, charger installation procedures, and available incentives.

Key components of the EV Consumer Guide include:

EV charging at home
  • Environmental and financial benefits of owning a ZEV, specific to the San Diego region;
  • Resources for understanding vehicle models and charging technology availability;
  • Information for consumers on financial incentives for purchasing a ZEV;
  • Permitting instructions for installing an EV charger at your own home or working with your property owner to install chargers; and
  • Interactive tools to help consumers identify ZEV options that fit their needs.

The EV Consumer Guide was developed to support the County’s commitment to doing its part to increase the number of ZEVs on the road and improve access to charging infrastructure to provide clean mobility options for all residents. This important work protects the public’s health and safety, sustains the environment, and improves the quality of life for residents and visitors.

The EV Consumer Guide is a program of the County’s 2019 EV Roadmap and supports sustainability measures as part of the county’s ongoing climate action work. The EV Roadmap outlines policies and programs that increase EV adoption and the installation of charging infrastructure throughout the unincorporated County and greater San Diego region.
