Happy Earth Day 2020!
04/22/20
Today is Earth Day – a day we celebrate our long and important history of promoting sustainability and environmental protection in daily life and public policy.
Every year on April 22nd, more than one billion people from more than 190 countries around the globe celebrate this day of action. Earth Day 2020 is extra special this year, as it marks the 50th anniversary of the very first Earth Day event in 1970!
The theme for Earth Day 2020 is Climate Action to raise awareness on the challenges and opportunities to take action on global climate change.
Every day, the County of San Diego applies this theme in our work to help communities thrive while protecting the region’s unique and diverse natural resources through the Climate Action Plan. Our Climate Action Plan is committed to reducing climate impacts and preserving our region’s natural beauty. Together, we can help improve air quality, protect our watersheds, recycle more and use less.
This Year We’ll Celebrate Virtually
Due to the global coronavirus pandemic, the County is excited to celebrate Earth Day 2020 with you virtually!
The County’s Land Use & Environment Group has prepared a virtual Earth Day fair to explore, engage, and learn how all of us can protect and preserve our natural environment and celebrate Mother Nature.
At the Virtual Earth Day, you’ll find something for everyone – from GIF and coloring contests, to FaceBook Live park events, virtual hikes, science and technology activities, e-book collections, and proactive ways to pledge your support to Mother Earth!

We encourage you to participate and share how you are celebrating Earth Day on social media using #COSDEarthDay and #EarthDay2020.
“See” you there!
