Mpox Local Situation

On August 2, 2022, the County of San Diego declared a local health emergency to respond to mpox.
- On June 30, 2022, as part of San Diego Pride Week, County Public Health doctors held a virtual town hall on mpox and invasive meningococcal disease.
- On August 11, 2022, County officials held a virtual town hall to brief on this mpox outbreak.
- On November 10, 2022, following a significant decrease in new mpox cases and as a direct result of successful outbreak response measures, the local health emergency for mpox was allowed to expire.
The County continues surveillance, disease investigation, vaccination, education, and outreach activities, including tailored support and resources to various community sectors via telebriefings, town halls, and other events.
