MICN Initial Authorization

MICN Initial Authorization process:

Prepare your documents on the device you will complete your application on (JPG or PDF format works best). This will make the process smoother.

1.   Application:    MICN Initial Authorization online application

2.   You will be required to upload the following:

  • Current government-issued photo ID (e.g., Driver’s License, Passport, military ID card)
  • Current California State-issued RN license
  • MICN training course & exam certificate
  • Documentation of three (3) Ride-Alongs
  • Documentation of ten (10) Paramedic radio calls
  • Current ACLS card

3.   Sign and submit your application

4.   Pay your application fees (at this point, your completed application will appear in the County of San                        Diego queue for processing)

Online applications will not be processed until all required documentation has been uploaded and the appropriate fee is received by the County of San Diego Emergency Medical Services.

The application process may take up to forty-five (45) days from the date a completed application is received. Once your application has been processed, you will receive an email notifying you that you may log in to your profile to print your County of San Diego MICN ID card. This authorization is valid throughout the County of San Diego.

Reinstatements are now processed using the MICN Initial and Reinstatement Application.

To reinstate an expired Accreditation, please prepare the following documents:

1.   Application:    MICN Initial and Reinstatement Authorization online application

2.   There are further requirements based upon the length of the lapse. See policy P-303 for more information        Upload as requested:

  • Current government-issued photo ID (examples: Driver’s License, Passport, military ID card)
  • CE:

                - For non-BH affiliated MICNs, please collect 24 hours of prehospital-focused Continuing                                          Education in PDF format

                - For MICNs affiliated with a BHNC, your CEs will be verified by your BHNC.

                - All reinstatements require 24 Continuing Education hours.

  • For lapses less than 90 days:

                - Current ACLS, Current California RN license, and 24 CE hours

  • For lapses more than 90 days but less than 1 year:

                - Current ACLS, Current California RN license, and 24 CE hours

                         - Radio re-orientation log (10 call minimum)

  • For lapses more than 1 year:

                - Current ACLS, Current California RN license, and 24 CE hours

                - Radio re-orientation log (10 call minimum)

                - MICN exam certificate

3.   Sign and submit your application

4.   Pay your application fees (at this point, your completed application will appear in the County of San                        Diego queue for processing)
