Veterans Preference Policy
The purpose of preferential credits for military service is to assist qualified applicants in transitioning from the military to civilian careers with the County of San Diego. The program also provides assistance via preferential credits to former service members with service-connected disabilities and their spouses, and to the surviving spouse of a person who died while in the service.
Preferential Credits
There are three distinct military preferential credit programs all of which require the applicant to first meet the minimum qualifications for the job and then be successful in the evaluation process. The preferential credits (5 points) are only applied to the successful candidate's final score. Preferential credits are only given on open recruitments, not promotional opportunities.
