National Recovery Month 2024
National Recovery Month (Recovery Month), observed every September since 1989, aims to promote and support new evidence-based treatment and recovery practices. It celebrates the nation’s strong and proud recovery community, including dedicated service providers and community members who make recovery in all its forms possible.
This year, in lieu of an annual resource fair, we are excited to share information, resources, and recovery journeys through our online platforms and look forward to hosting connection opportunities throughout the year across the county.
As Recovery Month kicks off next month, we invite you to get involved and unite San Diego’s recovery community in one of the ways listed below. Please visit this page for information on future community workshops and reach out to us at Engage.BHS@sdcounty.ca.gov if you would like to discuss a collaboration opportunity and/or explore an upcoming activity to uplift the voices of those impacted by substance use and support our local recovery community.

Events encourage connection while simultaneously promoting positive change and hope within communities.
How to Get Involved:

Submit a Spotlight Story
Submit a recovery spotlight story about an individual with lived experience or an organization doing tremendous work that made a difference in your recovery journey. BHS will highlight stories of individuals and organizations throughout the year to share the community’s resilience and spectrum of recovery journeys.
- Individual Stories: If you or a loved one has lived experience with recovery and have a story that you’d like to share, please let us know.
- Organizations: Nominate an organization providing outstanding service in the recovery field.
Why Our Stories Matter:
Stories of recovery are powerful and transformative. By sharing our recovery journeys and recognizing the outstanding work of organizations, we help foster a stronger, more connected community. These stories not only inspire others but also highlight the resilience and strength that define us. Together, we can show the breadth and depth of recovery in our community.
How You Can Get Involved:
If you or someone you know has a recovery story to share, or if you’re aware of an organization providing exceptional service in the recovery field, now is the time to let those stories be heard. Let’s come together to celebrate and highlight the diverse paths of recovery within our community. Submit a spotlight story today and help us shine a light on the journeys that uplift us all.
