Temporary Employees
The County of San Diego offers two medical plan options to all Temporary Employees. Enrollment instructions are emailed within 60 days of hire. If an email is not on file in PeopleSoft, instructions will be mailed to the address on record.
The selected medical coverage will be effective the 1st
day of the month following a 30-day grace period from hire. If
coverage is not elected during this time, the next opportunity to
elect coverage will be during the County’s next Open Enrollment period
or if you experience a Qualifying Life
Event.
The County offers two High Deductible Health Plans (HDHP) to choose from. Temporary Employees may select either the Kaiser Permanente HDHP or UnitedHealthcare Harmony HDHP. Eligibility for coverage is contingent upon continued employment with the County of San Diego.
Coverage may be elected for employee-only, employee + 1 dependent, or employee + 2 or more dependents. The County considers “dependent” to include a spouse, a domestic partner, or an eligible child up to the age of 26.
How to Enroll:
- Complete both sides of the Enrollment Change Form
- Return the form to DHRBenefits.FGG@sdcounty.ca.gov
- Include supporting documentation for any newly added dependents, such as a marriage certificate for a spouse or birth certificate for a child
Health Savings Account (HSA):
If you enroll in either plan, you are eligible to set up a tax-advantaged Health Savings Account with any financial (bank) institution of your choice, assuming you meet all the eligibility requirements to open a Health Savings Account. The County does not offer a Health Savings Account for temporary employees. Please contact your bank for more information if you would like to set up an HSA.
