Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) Community Rating System (CRS) is a voluntary incentive program that recognizes and encourages community floodplain management practices that exceed the minimum requirements of the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). In communities that participate in CRS, flood insurance premium rates are discounted to reflect the reduced flood risk resulting from the community’s efforts. The amount of discount depends on community’s class (points) in the CRS program; improved classes reflect increasing actions taken to exceed minimum standards. The County has been participating in the CRS program since May 2008. The County's CRS class was upgraded to class 6 effective October 1, 2023 which enables eligible residents to receive flood insurance at a 20% reduced rate.
